Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that the Party of Regions proved its support of alcohol, beer and beer-football patriotism, as it rejected the bill that prohibits advertising of vodka brands and direct advertising of beer during the day, except for the beer sponsorship (such as support of the League of Champions or European Football Championship by particular beer brands).
On Wednesday, The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine forwarded the bill "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Advertising" (re Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages and Beer)" (Reg. No. 1014-2) for adjustment. The bill, submitted by M.Tomenko and A.Shevchenko, prohibits direct radio and TV advertising of alcoholic beverages and beer before 24.00, and bans sponsorship of TV and radio programs, theatrical performances and concerts, sports and other events with the use of trademarks of tobacco goods and alcoholic beverages (only trademarks of breweries shall be used by the sponsorship of concert and sports events).
"Social values and developing children alcoholism (according to the latest surveys, almost 50% of young people under 18 consume beer and low-alcoholic beverages) are less important for the authorities, than the profits of distilleries, breweries and owners of the TV channels," Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, concluded.
